Apron, Flowers and Crowns

I was sick with a cold the last couple of weeks. You would think I wouldn't get much sewing or crafting done when I'm not feeling good but I got a lot done. When I feel sick I usually don't feel like cleaning but I want to feel productive so I end up sewing or crafting instead.
Here is the apron I made for myself for mothers day. My husband is not really a holiday kind of person. So I try to do something for myself instead. I've been drooling over this pink and grey fabric for a few months. I just love the color combination.

I was looking for ways to embellish the crowns I am making to sell. So I decided to try making these flowers. They are called yo yo flowers. I'm not usually a big fan of making flowers or hand stitching but I have really enjoyed making these! The other great thing about these flowers is my eight year old daughter can make them too because they are so easy to make. My 11 old son also enjoyed sewing one. He made the camouflage flower for his sisters. I love that these flowers are so easy and require minimal amounts of using a glue gun. I didn't use the glue gun on the crowns that I sewed flowers onto. That is one reason I tried them because I though they would wash well. I like to make things that are sturdy and washable whenever I can. That may because I have five kids and I want things to last. That is one reason I love making the crowns. Because they are made to last unlike the cheap plastic crowns that break very quickly.
I think making these kind of flowers are going to be a new addiction:)

Here's a link to a tutorial on making the yo yos:

I just added a fabric covered button and glued them to a hair clip or a headband. I used velcro on the back of them so that my daughters could put them on a hair clip or a headband.

My 8 year old daughter with the flowers she made and the one her brother made.

Here are the crowns I made this week. I probably won't be making anymore crowns with flowers to sell because they take to long to make with the flowers.

Peasant Dress

I am kind of funny about posting on my blog. I was waiting until I had a sewing project done before I posted. I guess that is because sewing is my thing! I enjoy my other crafting but sewing always is my favorite. I sometimes am even embarrased if I don't think I've done as many sewing projects as I usually do. Even when I have done other projects. Anyways here was my sewing project from last week.

My son wanted to be in the picture.

I don't have room for my ironing board in my craft room so I made this old sewing table into an ironing board.

For Relief Society (Relief Society is our women's group at church) I made these posters and designed the gift bags that we decorated. We had a service project for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We donated stuff for the gift bags, decorated the bags and filled them. We were able to put together 49 bags in one night. It was a lot of fun!

These two were my first try. I was trying to come up with a simple format, that we could put together quickly.
These 4 are the ones we actually used. I think if I decorate anymore gift bags I will be using the same format. I love simplicity!

I made 4 pillowcases to donate. This one I added a ruffle to. You can't see it very well in the picture but it came out very cute.

Bookmark Frenzy

I have been making ALOT of bookmarks the last month or so. My kids counted and right now I have over 200 made. I'd say probably 75% of those I made in the last month or so. I am going to be selling them at my friends craft booth this summer. I also love to give them away for gifts ect. I guess I better start working on my sewing projects for this summer.  Actually I have started some. I cut out a bunch of super hero crowns to sell.
I love making the bookmarks because they are a great way to use my stamps and very simple. I've also been having a blast finding fun ribbon to go with them.
